Chore wheel questions

How does a chore wheel work?

A chore wheel lists the shared jobs around a circle and the people around an inner ring. Each week the inner ring turns one step, so everyone moves to the next job. Over a full rotation everyone does every job the same number of times.

How do I make a roommate chore chart fair?

List only shared-space jobs (personal rooms are each person's own business), weigh them by effort, and rotate weekly. If one job is much worse, such as bathrooms, pair it with a light job or split it into two.

What if there are more chores than people?

That's fine: jobs are dealt out in turn, so some people carry two a week. The rotation still evens it out over time. With fewer chores than people, some people get a week off.

Can the wheel pick someone at random?

Yes. "Spin" picks a random chore for a random person, handy for one-off jobs nobody wants. For the regular weekly plan, use the rotation table below, which is fairer than pure chance.
